Pastoral
The Pastoral Staff, in Latin "baculus pastoralis" (shepherd's staff), is a liturgical staff that represents the dignity and authority of a bishop. Pastoral staffs carry a rich religious symbolism, derived from the Old and New Testaments. As a sign of spreading the faith, the Pastoral Staff is a meaningful object used in the pastoral ministry of a bishop, abbot, or privileged prelate. The end of the Pastoral Staff is curved in the shape of a snail, referred to as the "crozier." The crozier's end is typically highly decorative, often adorned with motifs inspired by religious symbols.
